WAOL ANGEL SMS-Integration Job Update

Audience: SMS-ANGEL administrators

We experienced a problem with loading data from college SMS systems, which prevented SMS-ANGEL Integration from getting new course and roster data.   At noon today the problem was corrected, thanks to our Bellevue systems administrators, and data is now being loaded from the college SMS and being sent on to ANGEL.

Schools scheduled to run hourly or every other hour will be updated at their regular times.   Schools that load data only once a day will be run manually.  All schools should be refreshed by 2pm today, 4/5/2010.

The job status, found on the SMS-ANGEL Schedule tab, will be updated to report when your school’s data was loaded.

2:15pm Update:The integration system is sending course and rosters updates to ANGEL, but there is currently a backlog of about an hour.    This means that, for example, SMS data loaded at 2pm should be available on ANGEL at 3pm.

Summer & Fall Book Order Deadline: Friday, April 9th

Audience: All WAOL **Shared** Course Instructors

What: Deadline for submitting your Summer & Fall book orders

When: Next Friday, April 9th
Please use Internet Explorer when updating your texts as we’ve noticed Firefox seems to default to “no books required”.

Lead instructors:

  • Please take a moment to confirm that your texts for Summer and Fall are updated and correct.
  • Please let us know ASAP if you are changing your texts sowe can pass that information along to other instructors teaching your course.
  • Click on this link for steps to entering your Book Order
  • If your course is not being offered this quarter then please disregard this request.

All other instructors:

  • Please check the book order report to be sure you are offering the most current texts.

A reminder:
We’ve discovered:

  • Students often use our eCampus bookstore to find their texts then order them elsewhere.
  • Students often bypass their campus bookstores and order from services like Amazon.
  • This often results in the wrong course materials for students who have courses that list bundled/custom texts.

ANGEL Hosting 3/31/2010 Outage

Yesterday, at 5:24 pm (ET), our datacenter experienced a failure of two of their UPS flywheel banks.  This failure caused one of their main breakers to trip.  Only one of the circuits was able to be put back online, as the other was damaged during the failure.  Customers with equipment on these affected circuits may have lost connectivity as a result.  We immediately received notice from our alerting system and dispatched engineers to the datacenter to diagnose the impact to our systems.  Where possible, systems impacted by this outage were rolled over to their redundant pair, and for all others, new power was run to unaffected circuits.  All devices were back online in our environment by 6:25pm.  We are continuing to work with the NOC at the datacenter to determine what we can do to prevent these types of outages going forward.

We apologize for any inconvenience this outage may have caused.

Sincerely,
ANGEL Managed Hosting
