Open Course Library Launched
The highly anticipated Open Course Library was launched this morning during a telephone press conference.
During the call, reporters — from the Associated Press, Washington Post, USA Today, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and The Seattle Times, to name just a few — got in-depth information including new estimates of textbook savings to students and families, from our expert panel:
- Shaunta Hyde, State Board member, Director of Global Aviation Policy for Boeing Commercial Airplanes
- Tom Caswell, SBCTC, project lead and Open Education policy associate
- Reuven Carlyle, Washington State Representative, 36th District (D-Seattle), early champion of Open Education Resources in the state
- Nicole Allen, Student Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs) textbook advocate, and a nationally recognized expert on textbook costs
- Michael Kenyon, Green River Community College mathematics instructor
- Lindsey Cassels, Clover Park Technical College esthetics sciences student

ANGEL Patch “Access Denied” Problem Fixed
ANGEL applied a fix for “Access Denied” problem this morning, Wednesday, October 19th and everything looks to be fixed. Secure log-on has also been re-enabled.
Please check it out, and report any “Access Denied” problems to the ANGEL support ticket.
Case #896256 – Getting Access Denied when logging on as a user via Admin Account
ANGEL Login Issues
Who: Faculty, Students and Administrators
What: Some faculty and students have had problems logging into ANGEL, seeing an Access Denied message and having to repeat the login several times. This problem was fixed, as of 10/11/2011 5pm PDT by changing our Logon nugget to use the standard mode of logging into ANGEL. Administrators may still encounter this problem when using the Logon As feature within the ANGEL Account Manager.
Next Steps: Bb Support is looking at the “Account Manager Logon As” problem and hoping to quickly have a fix for our ANGEL installation, but we don’t have an estimate as to when this might be.
More Info: ANGEL Service Pack 14 seems to have caused a problem with the Logon As and authentication pass-through features within ANGEL. This problem seems to be isolated to ANGEL installations, like ours, with multiple domains.
The ANGEL Logon is currently operating in ‘normal’ mode and so users should be cautioned against logging into ANGEL while using an unsecured (open) Wi-Fi connection.
