Important Information for Spring Quarter Instructors

An email was just sent to any ELCs whose instructors indicated they would continue to teach on WAOL Blackboard during Spring 09.  If you didn’t get a separate email, that means all of your instructors on WAOL used the default choice of ANGEL for Spring.

Please note these things about Spring 09:

  • http://www.waol.org will be changed from a Blackboard-centered site to an ANGEL site.  The changes to the web site will be complete in the next two weeks.
  • Just as we did Winter 09, WAOL will create a classroom and attach students both in WAOL Blackboard and in WAOL ANGEL.  However, students will be directed to their ANGEL classroom by default.
  • Instructors are responsible to make sure students have the information they need to get to the correct classroom.  Instructors need to check both classrooms to make sure the correct information is available as your students log in.
  • That means instructors who are not teaching in ANGEL must go into their ANGEL classroom(s) and post information so the students will know how to get to Blackboard.

For ANGEL:

  • Go to http://angel.waol.org/
  • User ID: Your student ID number
  • Password: The first five letters of your last name  (lowercase, no punctuation—Examples: Johnson = johns, Lee = lee, O’Reilly = oriel)
  • Please change your password after logging in the first time.  Scroll over the icons on the left margin to find Preferences. Click on the Preferences button, then Change Password.
  • Make sure the email address listed in your Personal Information is correct.

For Blackboard:

  • Go to http://waol.blackboard.com
  • User ID: the letters waol plus your student ID number, no dashes, no spaces  (for example: waol23456789)
  • Password:  The first five letters of your last name  (lowercase, no punctuation—Examples: Johnson = johns, Lee = lee, O’Reilly = oriel)
  • Please change your password after logging in the first time.
  • Make sure the email address listed in your Personal Information is correct.
  • Note that the user ID is different in ANGEL.  In ANGEL it is the student ID number only—no “waol” prefix.

Please pass this information on to your faculty who teach on WAOL or check with them to make sure they post this information for your students as the students start Spring quarter.

Let us know what else we need to do as Spring quarter fast approaches!  Thanks for your help, as always.

ELC info for Spring Intent to Teach Management

·         We did get some feedback and made some changes this afternoon to de-emphasize the option of Blackboard for Spring.  If you want all faculty at your college on ANGEL for Spring, please let them know, so they will make the right choice.

·         We will send you a report in a few weeks to let you know which of your instructors chose Blackboard, if any.  If you don’t want your instructors on Blackboard, we’ll have time to fix it before Spring begins.

·         Most important–Please check carefully as you approve the Intent to Teach forms to make sure the correct dates are there.  WAOL automates every process based on those dates, and the power is now yours to make them what you want at your college.  (Note: That is for private classrooms only; shared courses continue to use WAOL start-stop dates.)
